Tattoo is one of the oldest forms of imprint on the body. There is even evidence that our ancestors created tattoos throughout their bodies. That tradition still exists and has been preserved to this day.

The birth of current tattoos is still a major unanswered question. However, some scientists have found tattooed signs from the skin of some frozen mummies dating back to 3300 BC. Also in Egypt and Nubian (Small Kingdom located along the Nil River, in northern Sudan and southern Egypt), also appeared tattoos on mummies dating back 2000 BC. Historians guess the birth of the tattoo may have come from the Greeks, the Old Britons and the Old Germans.

A preserved piece of skin with a tattoo found on the mummy of the Pazyryk culture. It was excavated in the Altay Mountains in Siberia, 3-4 century BC.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF TATTOO ART

The art of tattooing is widespread throughout the world: the Ainu in Japan, the Berbers in North Africa, the Maori in New Zealand, the tribes of the Pacific, the Americas, Europe, the Philippines, and Cambodia,... Despite the taboos surrounding it, this art is still becoming more and more popular.

In Vietnamese anecdotes, Khac Thuan Nguyen wrote: "one of the oldest tradition of the Vietnamese is tattoo, which lasted until the end of the 13th and early 14th centuries. Someone said that because of this, the first name of the Vietnamese country was "Van Lang".
In order to affirm the reason of tattooing of ancient Vietnamese people, the Vietnamese Etiquette Dictionary had records: Ancient Vietnamese people from 2000-3000 years ago had the tattoo of sea monsters (dragons, snakes ..) on their stomachs, breasts, back, legs, arms .... The story told that people used to finding food in the water for a long time. They tattooed so that they would not be harmed by aquatic monsters and merged with aquatic animals to hunt them.

Tattoos in some tribal cultures often mark maturity or a new beginning.

Today, we cannot deny that tattooing is a growing trend among young people. As in the US, most young people choose tattoos that fit their personality. Or choosing eye-catching images that create attention, express yourself. Not only that, it is also considered an art, popular culture indispensable in life.
